Sumario:The Diabetes is the intolerance to the glucose, which begins during the gestation and it is commonly detected in the second quarter of pregnancy, the excess of sugar appears in the blood but it generally disappears after the birth. This illness, if not diagnosed opportunely represents a high risk; bringing severe complications and even causing the death for the mother and her child. Here is the importance of the glucose determination through the O Sullivan test and oral tolerance test to the glucose in the second quarter of pregnancy as indicators of gestational diabetes on patients who come to the Hospital of Saraguro. For that reason, a descriptive, prospective and transversal study was developed with 50 expectant mothers in the second quarter of pregnancy, who were determined with glucose after they have ingested the amount of sugar according to the O Sullivan with the following results, 36% (18) obtained increased results; the ones who were applied the oral tolerance test to the glucose, 8% (4) had gestational diabetes. To collect information related to the factors that influence directly to the appearance of this illness, it was applied an interview in which 100% (4) of the expectant mothers with diabetes are in their 30’s, 75% (3) have medical history of diabetes in their families, 50% (2) has an IMC higher than 30 Kg/m2, 25% (1) has a previous obstetrical history. Factors are related with the obtained results from the analysis, which helped the doctor to give a convenient treatment and better the patients’ quality of life.
