Shrnutí: | Listening comprehension is considered one of the fundamental skills to acquire when learning English as a foreign language (EFL), because it allows learners to interpret and understand spoken messages in order to become better listeners. For that reason, the main objective of this research was to determine the improvement of English listening comprehension skills by the use of podcasts among students of bachillerato at a public institution in Loja, during the 2022-2023 school year. The method used for this work was a mixed approach based on practical action research that included the application of a pre-test and post-test that were used as instruments to gather numerical data about the listening comprehension performance level of the participants before and after the implementation of the intervention plan. Moreover, a questionnaire was applied to collect qualitative data about the students’ perceptions on the benefits that podcasts have at the time of enhancing their listening comprehension. All the data was analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The results obtained showed that, with the application of podcasts students enhanced their listening comprehension sub-skills such as; listening for the gist, listening for specific information, inferring and predicting. Other finding was that, students’ perception towards the use of podcasts and its different types was satisfactory because it allowed them to engage more with the class as they felt motivated, interested at the same time they enjoyed the activities developed with podcasts. Additionally, they perceived exposure to English in real life situations all together with the increasing of their critical thinking skills. Hence, the researcher concluded that students of bachillerato positively perceived the use of podcasts in the classroom since it helped them to enhance their listening comprehension sub-skills by the benefits that podcasts offer.
