description The application of biosafety standards constitutes a preventive measure for health personnel against the risks generated in the daily activities. Nursing professionals are considered a vulnerable population due to the exposure to occupational accidents of a biological nature and nosocomial diseases. Given this, the objective of the research was to analyze the level of compliance with biosafety standards and associated factors by nursing staff who work at the Hospital General Isidro Ayora, for the implementation of an educational proposal regarding the importance of the enforcement of these rules. The study was descriptive, quantitative, prospective and cross-sectional. The population was 195 nursing professionals, the data collection instruments were the survey and observation sheet, the same ones that were applied to 58 participants that met the selection criteria. The results show that the female gender prevailed among the study participants, with an age range of 30-35 years, with a degree and work experience from 5 to 10 years; workforce that present a high level of compliance in hand washing (98.3%), use of physical barriers (86.2%) and biological barriers (81%); while lower levels were obtained in terms of fulfillment with chemical barriers (53.4%) and handling-elimination of hospital waste (62.1%). A significant association was demonstrated between the extent of compliance with the use of physical and chemical barriers by the workers according to the work area. An educational proposal was designed focused on improving fulfillment, particularly with physical and chemical barriers, and handling-elimination of hospital waste. Finally, it was concluded that the study members have a high level of compliance with most biosafety standards

Finally, it was concluded that the study members have a high level of compliance with most biosafety standardsLa aplicación de normas de bioseguridad constituye una medida de prevención del personal sanitario frente a los riesgos generados en sus actividades diarias.
