Ամփոփում:Informality is a considerable problem for the Ecuadorian citizens, as it causes poverty and income losses, becoming a socioeconomic challenge for the region. In 2022, the informality rate increased to 35% of GDP, the highest figure ever recorded. That is why this research evaluates the effect of trade, financial development, government effectiveness and political corruption in the informal economy of Ecuador during the period 1990-2022 through an econometric and statistical analysis, based on the data collected from the World Bank (2023), the International Monetary Fund (2023) and Varieties of Democracy (2023). All this was done with the aim of proposing strategies to reduce economic informality. To this end, an econometric model of time series cointegration techniques, long-term models, error correction models and causality tests was used. The results show that there is no causality in trade over time; however, there is a causality in the financial development in the medium term and in the effectiveness of the government in the short and medium term in relation to the informality. Therefore, it does not tend to disappear in the long term. For this reason, it is crucial to implement policies aimed at fostering formal job creation, improving infrastructure and regulatory framework to support the commercial sector to be efficient and reduce informality. Likewise, reducing political corruption and improving the effectiveness of government will contribute to the socioeconomic development of the region.
