The population consisted of 158 students of which 57 are female and 43 male. A survey was applied to determine the knowledge and preventive behaviors on Human Papilloma Virus and Cervical Cancer. The results about the knowledge of the human papilloma virus indicate that 78% of respondents know about the symptoms, diagnosis method and 72% on risk factors; lesser percentage as 62% and 69% respectively know the transmission mechanism, the definition and that can affect both sexes. In relation to cervical cancer it was evident that 94% of students know about the clinical manifestations; 90% the average of diagnosis and 84% mentioned not knowing that each time the Pap smear should be performed; finally 81% know that it is a disease caused by the human papillomavirus. As for practicing preventive behavior was determined that 64% believe that condom use prevents transmission of the virus, 63% and 61% indicate that it is important to keep a healthy lifestyle as balanced diet, physical activity, To avoid the use of tobacco; by contrast, 61% and 59% do not believe that the Pap test and immunization against human papillomavirus are preventive practices. La presente investigación es de tipo descriptivo se desarrolló con el objetivo de determinar los saberes y conductas preventivas sobre el Virus del Papiloma Humano y Cáncer Cérvicouterino en los estudiantes del Colegio Nocturno “Dr. Benjamín Carrión” de Loja. La población estuvo conformada por 158 estudiantes de los cuales 57 pertenecen al sexo femenino y 43 al sexo masculino. Se aplicó una encuesta para determinar los saberes y conductas preventivas sobre el Virus Papiloma Humano y Cáncer Cervicouterino. Los resultados acerca de los saberes del virus del papiloma humano indican que el 78% de encuestados desconoce sobre la sintomatología, método diagnóstico y el 72% sobre los factores de riesgo; en menor porcentaje como el 62% y 69% respectivamente conocen el mecanismo de trasmision, la definicion y que puede afectar tanto a ambos sexos. En relación al cáncer cérvicouterino se evidencio que el 94% de estudiantes desconocen sobre las manifestaciones clínicas; el 90% el medio de diagnóstico y el 84% menciona no conocer cada que tiempo se debe realizar el papanicolaou; finalmente el 81% conocen que es una enfermedad causada por el virus del papiloma humano. En cuanto a las conductas preventivas que practican se determinó que el 64% consideran que el uso del preservativo previene la trasmisión del virus, el 63% y 61% indican que es importante llevar un estilo de vida saludable como: dieta balanceada, actividad física, evitar el consumo de tabaco; por el contrario el 61% y 59% no consideran que la prueba del papanicolaou e inmunización contra el virus del papiloma humano son prácticas preventivas.
