| Summary: | This investigation called "KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES ON FOOT CARE IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE 2 IN THE ISIDRO AYORA GENERAL HOSPITAL", the same one that has the objective to establish the knowledge and practices on foot care in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2, in the area of external consultation specifically in the podology and vascular surgery offices in the Isidro Ayora Hospital. A descriptive and transversal research methodology was implemented, using as an instrument an interview that consisted in 20 items, the result data were emptied into simple and crossed tables, with the support of Excel and Microsoft Word, the universe was consisted of 109 patients that attended in the period of December 2017 to January 2018, the results shows that the population mostly affected by diabetes mellitus type 2 is female sex, marital status married, whose age dominates the range 51 to 70 years old; in relation to knowledge more than 50% unknow the risk factors, medical controls, causes, diagnosis of the diabetic foot; In relation to the practices for foot care, was possible to identify that more than 50% of the interviewees do not practice an adequate washing, drying and moisturizing, cutting the toenails and using inappropriate footwear which is considered worrying that it increases the risk of complications in these patients.
