PERIOD MARCH - JULY 2013, as a result, it is stated as a general objective: to determine the influence of the functional ecological method in the personal autonomy of the children with mild mental deficiency of 6 to 10 years of age attending the Rehabilitation Center "C. A. D. E" of the city of Loja. To carry out the research work methods as were used: descriptive method, synthetic and analytical method statistical method; worked with a sample of seven children with Mild Mental Retardation and 12 school professionals; in the same way had to be applied as a tool Barthel index of autonomy for activities of daily living designed to evaluate children with Mental Retardation Mild and techniques as the survey which was administered to teachers who perform their in the institution. Upon completion of this investigation it is concluded that the majority of children with mild mental deficiency, namely 4 of the 7 infants evaluated corresponding to 57.2%, have a moderate level of dependence according to the results of the initial assessment through the instrument applied (Barthel Index of autonomy for activities of daily living), so it affected their personal autonomy; for this reason it is recommended that the functional organic method is used to work the personal autonomy of children with mild mental retardation as it allows optimal development of the same, giving the opportunity for these children to have a better quality of life.
