This research aimed to establish the degrees of arterial hypertension, stratify the cardiovascular risk according to age group and sex, and settle the relationship between these variables in patients treated in the endocrinology outpatient care and internal medicine appointments of the Isidro Ayora Hospital in Loja. A quantitative study with a transversal- prospective cohort was conducted with 78 diabetic patients, 49.72% (n=38) female and 51.28% (n=40) male, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. After measuring the participants' blood pressure according to the European Cardiology Guide and the World Health Organization cardiovascular risk calculator, we obtained that 34.62% (n=27) presented high normal blood pressure; prevalence in women with 17.95%(n=14), in ages 60 to 69 years 10.24%(n=8); 26.9% (n=21) grade 1 HT, predominant in men 11.52% (n=9), in ages 60 to 79 years 10.24% (n=8); 21.75% (n=17) with optimal and normal values, higher in men 11.52% (n=9), in ages 60 to 69 years 5.13% (n=4); cardiovascular risk was low in 43.59% (n=34), women 26.88% (n=21), in ages 50 to 69 years 11.52% (n=9); moderate in 23.08% (n=18), women 16.64% (n=13), in ages 70 to 79 years 12.82% (n=10); and high in 20.51% (n=16) men, in ages 70 to 79 years 12.82% (n=10);.The relationship between the degrees of arterial hypertension and cardiovascular risk is statistically significant with a value of "p" 0.001. La presente investigación tuvo como finalidad establecer los grados de hipertensión arterial, estratificar el riesgo cardiovascular según grupo de edad y sexo, y establecer la relación entre ambas variables, en pacientes atendidos en consulta externa de endocrinología y medicina interna del Hospital Isidro Ayora de Loja. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo, de cohorte transversal, prospectivo, con 78 pacientes diabéticos, 49.72% (n=38) de sexo femenino y 51,28% (n=40) de sexo masculino, que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. A quienes se midió la tensión arterial, según la Guía Europea de Cardiología y la calculadora de riesgo cardiovascular de la Organización Mundial de la Salud, obteniendo que 34.62% (n=27) presentó presión arterial normal alta; prevalencia en mujeres con 17,95%(n=14), en edades de 60 a 69 años 10,24%(n=8); 26,9%(n=21) HTA grado 1, predominante en hombres 11,52%(n=9), en edades 60 a 79 años 10,24%(n=8); 21,75% (n=17) con valores óptimo, y normal, mayor en hombres 11,52%(n=9), en edades de 60 a 69 años 5,13%(n=4); el riesgo cardiovascular fue bajo en 43,59% (n=34), mujeres 26,88 %(n=21), en edades de 50 a 69 años 11,52% (n=9); moderado en 23,08% (n=18), mujeres 16,64%(n=13), en edades de 70 a 79 años 12,82% (n=10); y alto en 20,51% (n=16) hombres, en edades de 70 a 79 años 12,82% (n=10);.
