要約:The purpose of this investigation was to determine the structural and functional alterations in patients with atrial fibrillation, for which was carried out a quantitative, descriptive and retrospective research in the General Hospital ¨Isidro Ayora¨ of the city of Loja in the period 2012 to 2017, conformed by 44 patients, of which was investigated the clinical history on the characteristics that allowed to reach the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation. As results, it was found that the patients with the highest prevalence of atrial fibrillation were those older than 61 years old with 74.99%, with women being the most affected with 59.10% of the cases. In these patients with atrial fibrillation it was determined that 88.60% had some degree of remodeling of the left atrium; regarding the degree of functional alteration, it was established that only 36.40% of the cases had a preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). It was shown that prevalence of atrial fibrillation increases as age advances with variations that adjust to different age groups, while most patients with atrial fibrillation have some degree of structural and functional alteration. Keywords: Atrial fibrillation, structural alteration, functional alteration, LVEF.
