总结:Currently, the generation of solid waste is a universal problem; in the Zapotillo parish the reality does not change, since waste management is deficient due to deficiencies from the generation to the final disposal of waste (e.g., no classification, presence of waste in unsuitable places, etc.). For this reason, the purpose of this research work was to propose a household solid waste management program that would strengthens the environmental culture in order to recover usable solid waste in the parish. A total of 355 surveys were applied to inhabitants to determine the level of environmental culture regarding waste management; in situ characterization of the waste was carried out through a sampling of 8 consecutive days with the participation of 64 homes. A medium level of environmental culture was obtained among the citizens (7,84 points), who indicated that they were aware of activities related to waste management. In the characterization of the waste, a per capita generation of 0,56 kg/person/day was obtained; a density of 156,9 kg/m³; and in the composition showed that the organic fraction with 60.51% was the majority value in relation to the other wastes. From on the results obtained it became evident that there is a lack of environmental education of the population, lack of differentiated classification, visual/environmental contamination and absence of waste utilization projects; therefore, the program proposal was built and included three projects; 1) "Environmental education on waste management", 2) " Awareness raising in communities about recycling and composting ", and 3) "Use of household solid waste". These are focused on connecting the social and environmental spheres to improve the management of solid waste from its reduction at the source of origin, raising awareness among citizens and reducing waste pollution. Keywords: Characterization of waste, pollution, environmental culture, recycling, composting.
