Sumari:Maternal death is a global problem that threatens all mothers. Severe bleeding, hypertension and related infections are the main causes of mortality, being closely related to age and number of prenatal checkups. The objective of the study was to determine the temporo-spatial trends and the annual maternal mortality rate in Zone 7 for the period 2017- 2021, identifying the most common causes of death according to sociodemographic variables. An analytical study with a mixed, descriptive, cross-sectional approach was applied, the data were retrieved from the open databases of the Ministry of Public Health and the National Institute of Statistics and Census, the study universe was 90 and the sample was 51 women, the analysis was performed using customized and crossed tables with the SPSS statistical program and the mortality rates were determined in Excel and compared using the ANOVA test in SPSS. The year with the most deaths and therefore with the highest mortality rate was 2020, the province with the highest prevalence was El Oro, and the most prevalent cause was Other indirect causes followed by Obstetric Hemorrhage. There is a significant difference between provinces with p <0.05. Women aged 30 to 34 are the most affected, as well as single women, with primary education and with more than five prenatal checkups. Maternal mortality has remained somewhat static, but increased in 2020. Mortality rates by year indicate that there is a significant difference between provinces, but not between years with Chi-Square. Despite having more than five prenatal check-ups, women die more; marital status and level of education are not related to maternal mortality
