Crynodeb:The present research work titled “Evaluation of Pigs´ Management, Production and Merchandising”, was developed on the grange called “Mathias Farm” which is located in Balsas canton - El Oro province. This research was performed in the period: May 3rd to December 26th, 2013. The farm is located 2.3 km. from the road leading from Balsas town to the parish Bellamaría of Balsas canton. On the other hand, the farm is also located 77.9 km. from Machala city. The variables evaluated were: facilities management, production - productivity and profitability. It may be noted that the farm has the right conditions in terms of infrastructure, facilities and equipment, including balanced food processing plant with a production capacity of 10 tons per day. It has six vessels which include: maternity, covering, gestation and fattening spaces. Regarding reproduction, the farm has two breeding species. One specie belongs to the Synthetic Breed P Y C 3-24 PIK and the other one belongs to the Chilean Breed. Furthermore, the farm has 2 stallions, 50 breeding females as well as 9 puppies coming from the crossbreed between Yorkshire and Landrace breeds. It results in 100 fattening animals and 200 permanent sucking pigs with the purpose of achieving a sale of 600 animals per year. During the investigation, the birth of pigs was about 10 piglets (LNT) per litter. From this quantity, 92% of these piglets were born alive (LNV) and 8% (LNM), with an average weight of 1.34 kg. The mortality at the weaning moment is 14.3% with an average weight (21-25 days) of 8.9 kg. The mortality in the lactation period is 2.3% that is a percentage much lower than the average (18%). Regarding rearing groups, the average weight is 35-45 kg., and fattening groups 90-100 Kg. with an average of 150-165 days on sale. The balanced food that is used on the farm is processed on the same farm, with the technical assistance of a nutritionist input supplier. The feeding process is performed by semiautomatic feeders, where the filling of them is developed by hand. The food consumption per animal has an average of 260 kg., whereby it is achieved a conversion rate of 2.88. In terms of age, the averages of food consumption are the following: pre-initial age - 5%, initial age - 8%, growth age - 21%, and fattening age - 66%. Water supply is done through waterers nipple type, connected to a continuous supply network. A vaccination and deworming schedule is carried out on the farm. However, it is not possible a good administration and management of the exploitation due to the lack of a registration system on the piggery management. Likewise, the environmental outcome is another problem and it is conditioned by the economic dimension, where the extraction and evacuation of dejections are a disadvantage in the exploitation. It occurs because of the absence of good environmental management practices. The average weight of each sold pig is 90 kg, of course when it is alive, producing 600 animals and 54,000 kg per year, with a total income of $159.300, 00. The production cost per kg of produced meat is $2.33. The selling price per kg is $2.95, obtaining a profit of $0.62 per kg ($ 55.80 per animal). The profitableness is 38.31%, a ratio B/C of 1.09 and an inversion recovery time which is estimated in 2 years, 2 months 12 days. The equilibrium point (EP) in the first year is achieved with $38,569.84; which means that this amount of money must be sold neither to lose nor to gain.
