Čoahkkáigeassu:This research work is about mind maps to improve reading comprehension, the general objective was to determine the incidence of mind maps to improve reading comprehension in the student of fifth grade at "Zoila Alvarado de Jaramillo" School. In order to face this general objective, three specific objectives were written. The first focused on identifying the levels of comprehension, the second on designing an educational proposal using mind maps as a strategy for reading comprehension and the third objective was to evaluate the mind map proposal. To carry out this research work, a mixed approach was used with a descriptive research type and non-experimental design, during the process the descriptive, analytical, synthetic and statistical methods were applied, the techniques used were observation, interview and survey. The research instruments used were the questionnaire and the reading comprehension test, which contributed significantly to data collection, the research sample was the students of fifth grade at "Zoila Alvarado de Jaramillo" School, through a non-probabilistic sampling 31 students and a teacher of the fifth grade "A" were selected. The results of the research indicate that mind maps contribute in a significant way to enhance reading comprehension. This was evidenced with the application of the didactic proposal where mind maps applied in a dynamic way helped students develop skills in reading comprehension.
