| Sumari: | The present work analyzed the efficacy of the sterilization process of the equipment present in the dental clinic of the National University of Loja, is an experimental, comparative and cross-sectional investigation, whose sample constituted 70 curettes contaminated in scraping processes and smoothed in the dental clinic, were divided into 2 sterilization groups: Group 1 (Dry) and Group 2 (Wet), subdivided into subgroups: 8 that were analyzed in sterilizer 1 (E1), 4 analyzed in sterilizer 2 ( E2) and 2 analyzed in Autoclave, to later be analyzed microbiologically in the Clinical Laboratory "San Pablo". Obtaining as a result the efficiency of 100% in H7A and H7B, a better efficiency was observed in the sterilizer E1, when the instruments were placed in the upper zone p = 0.035 (p <0.05). The E2 dry heat sterilizer had 100% efficiency when the sterilization process was carried out in 2 hours (S5A, S5B). It was concluded that the autoclave is the most effective sterilization method, independently of the disinfection method used p = 0.075 (p <0.05), likewise it was determined that the dry heat sterilizers of the University Dentistry career Nacional de Loja at 160º in 1-hour cycles, the instruments are sterilized whenever there is previous disinfection and in 2-hour cycles it is effectively sterilized without the need for prior disinfection.
