| Summary: | Silicosis is a disease caused by chronic inhalation of crystalline silica that manifests with pulmonary fibrosis, which is an underdiagnosed occupational disease, the population most at risk are workers engaged in mining activities, construction, glass manufacturing and engraving, among others. The evaluation of the quality of life allows us to have a vision of the general conditions of health status. Therefore, a descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional and prospective study was carried out in a sample of 41 workers to whom the Sf-36 quality of life questionnaire was applied, with the objective of determining the relationship between quality of life and silicosis of the workers of the Jorupe 51 mining concession in the Portovelo canton of the province of El Oro, the results obtained were 14.63% incidence of silicosis, the total population is male, 34.9% with ages between 40 and 49; 53.7% are married, 43.9% have a primary school education, 85.4% self-identify as mestizos; of Ecuadorian, Peruvian and Venezuelan nationality; 78% live in urban areas and 26.8% work between 10 and 14 years.
