| Резюме: | Anxiety is an adaptive physiological response to threatening circumstances resulting from our daily interactions with the environment. In the context of higher education, certain factors, such as academic workload, negatively impact students’ emotional well-being, increasing the prevalence of conditions such as anxiety, which can detrimentally influence sleep quality. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between anxiety symptoms and sleep quality among Electromechanical Engineering students at the National University of Loja during the academic period from September 2024 to February 2025. A deductive, quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, and correlational study design was employed, collecting data from 120 electromechanical engineering students using validated instruments such as the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results revealed that 65.83% of students exhibited impaired sleep quality, with a significant association between elevated anxiety levels and sleep disturbances (χ² = 29.43, p = 0.05) concluding that individuals with disrupted sleep patterns tend to experience considerably higher levels of anxiety compared to those with optimal sleep quality. These findings underscored the importance of addressing mental health and sleep hygiene within the university context to enhance students’ overall well-being and academic performance |
