Özet:The Burnout syndrome, also known as overload or burning syndrome, is a state characterized by an inadequate way to cope with chronic work stress, and whose main symptoms are emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and decrease in personal performance. The purpose of this study, which was qualitative-quantitative, descriptive and transverse, was to determine the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome based on gender in teachers of the "Pio Jaramillo Alvarado" Educational Unit. The subjects of study were 40 teachers, 20 of the male gender and 20 of the female gender. The Maslach Burnout Inventory test (MBI) was applied to the teachers. After the respective analysis, the following results were obtained: The prevalence of Burnout Syndrome is 35% in males and 30% in females. In relation to the dimensions, the emotional exhaustion is higher in females (70%) than in males (40%); whereas, depersonalization is greater in men (55%) than in women (45%). Finally, the dimension of personal self-realization was less in females (55%) than males (45%). Keywords: Burnout syndrome, teachers, gender.
