Sumario:The present research aims to investigate the teaching methods to strengthen the learning of mathematics in the students of the Second Year of the Unified General Baccalaureate of the El Tambo Millennium Education Unit of the city of Catamayo, period 2019-2020. The research used methods and techniques stories such as: the scientific method, inductive method, deductive method, analytical method and descriptive method, of techniques such as the survey that helps to collect data through a questionnaire, a test that measures the level of student learning after applying new teaching methods, as well as the observation sheet that will have a deeper approach to the object of study. The results of the research exposed that the method most used by the teacher of the subject of mathematics is the traditional one, as well as applying classes with alternative teaching methods such as Polya, Montessori and Singapore show an improvement in their level of learning that happened from 7.33 / 10 to 8.32 / 10 this according to the qualitative scale of the Curricular Reform of the Ministry of Education, they reach the required learning; Based on the data specified above, it is concluded that the teacher has specific knowledge about alternative teaching methods in the subject of mathematics, so it is handled routinely during the classes he teaches, causing disinterest and demotivation in his students, as well the alternative methods applied significantly strengthen the learning of the Trigonometric Functions unit, this in that the student was aroused by the taste for the subject, order when performing mathematical exercises, relationship of mathematics with the surrounding environment, appropriation of knowledge; That is why the teacher of the subject is recommended to train in alternative teaching methods to strengthen the learning of mathematics.
