The Sector Lourdes belonging to the Canton Portovelo an endemic area is considered in which the presence of the vectorial triatoma "chinchorro" has been evidenced in most of the housings, because they are built of cane, wood and tile. This parasite affects children, youths and adults that have had frequent contact with earth, so much straws, bushes, domestic animals mainly wild, it is hence that he was carried out the present study of investigation of descriptive-traverse type, with the objective of to identify Trypanosoma cruzi and to determine the presence of antibodies against Trypanosoma cruzi; in a sample of 102 inhabitants that you/they fulfilled the inclusion approaches, it was used the method thick direct drop and ELISA'S technique, reaching the conclusions: that 100% of the inhabitants doesn't present the parasite by means of the exam of thick drop and a seropositivity IgG or IgM of 6 cases by means of ELISA'S test that you/they represent 6%. Key words: Trypanosoma cruzi, Thick Drop, ELISA.La tripanosomiasis americana o enfermedad de Chagas es una afección potencialmente mortal y constituye un importante problema de salud pública en el continente americano sobre todo en los países de Latinoamérica donde es endémica, es transmitida a los seres humanos principalmente por las heces de insectos triatomíneos conocidos como vinchucas o chinchorro. El Sector Lourdes perteneciente al Cantón Portovelo es considerado una zona endémica en el cual se ha evidenciado la presencia del vector triatoma “chinchorro” en la mayoría de las viviendas, debido a que están construidas de caña, madera y teja. Este parásito afecta tanto a niños, jóvenes y adultos que han tenido contacto frecuente con tierra, pajas, arbustos, animales domésticos sobre todo silvestres, es por ello que se realizó el presente estudio de investigación de tipo descriptivo-transversal, con el objetivo de identificar el Trypanosoma cruzi y determinar la presencia de anticuerpos contra Trypanosoma cruzi; en una muestra de 102 habitantes que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, se utilizó el método directo gota gruesa y la técnica de ELISA, llegando a las conclusiones: de que el 100% de los habitantes no presenta el parásito mediante el examen de gota gruesa y una seropositividad IgG o IgM de 6 casos mediante la prueba de ELISA que representan el 6%.
