| Summary: | This research entitled "Design and construction of a potato grading and sorting machine (Solanum tuberosum)" was carried out in the Canton of Loja, part of the Loja Province located in southern Ecuador. The objectives of this research were: - Design and build a sorter with its respective mechanisms for transmitting motion from the motor to the shaker using pulleys. - Calculate the power unit capable of sorting the tuber. - Design and build a support frame for the potato sorting machine based on the resistance to which it will be subjected. The methodology proposed for the first objective, which was the design of the sorter, began with the details of the harvest yield and the dimensions of the type of potatoes grown within the locality, as well as the transmission mechanism which was belts and pulleys. The second objective, which was the calculation of the power unit, was carried out through the calculation of all the weights that will be used for the mechanism to work correctly, for its subsequent operation, through an eccentric shaft that will enable the product to be moved and classified. The calculation of the frame was made through a simple structural calculation using the formula of stresses in beams, so that the structure can support the sorter with its respective transmission mechanisms. The results of the research, provided data for the construction of the sorting potato found in operation; however, these results can put new designs for the study of other alternatives improved, where people producing potato are the main benefit. |
