This research aimed to determine the relationship between cognitive functioning and the quality of life of older adults residing in the "Daniel Álvarez Sánchez" Home for the Elderly. This was a quantitative study with a descriptive-correlational scope; the study sample consisted of 27 older adults. The Mayo Test and the Assessment of Quality of Life in the Elderly FUMAT scale were used as tools for this research; the statistical analysis of the data was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics. The results indicate that moderate mental impairment is predominant in the population assessed; in terms of quality of life, most of the population presented an average level; likewise, a significant negative correlation was found between the study variables, suggesting that the greater the cognitive impairment, the lower the quality of life. Finally, a psychological intervention program was designed to improve the cognitive functioning and quality of life of the elderly population under study, which can be applied in other geriatric institutions |
