Тойм:Hypertension constitutes a serious public health problem, is the cause of at least 45% of deaths from heart disease and 51% due to stroke. The present investigation with a quantitative, correlational and cross-sectional approach, aimed to identify the risk factors related to arterial hypertension in the professional drivers of the Pradera Taxi Cooperative in the city of Loja, for which a survey and the measurement of weight, height, blood pressure and calculation of body mass index to 40 drivers. The information obtained was analyzed with the SPSS and Excel software. It was determined that the most representative non-modifiable risk factors related to arterial hypertension were: sex, the age range between 35-45 years and the family history of hypertension. Among the modifiable risk factors were: the consumption of junk food, followed by work stress, overweight, physical inactivity and tobacco consumption; on the other hand, the consumption of alcohol and adding additional salt to the prepared food were the least significant risk factors in relation to the other factors. Regarding blood pressure measurement, it was evidenced that the majority of drivers showed blood pressure levels within the normal range; 7.5 pre-hypertension and only 2.5% presented hypertension in stage 1.
