Add Tag | Summary: | The presence of an ulcer per pressure (UPP) is an event that is tied to the clinical safety of the patient, since they form part of the big geriatric syndromes, being considered to be a real problem of public health, due to the fact that they affect severely the quality of life of the patients, they managing to cause even the death. The present research was a study of descriptive type, carried out in the area of internal medicine of the Isidro Ayora Hospital of Loja, with a sample of 7 nursing professionals and 13 nursing assistants, which tries to determine the knowledge and practices of the nursing staff in prevention of the ulcers per pressure of the geriatric patient and to determine the frequency of existing UPP during the month of compilation of information. A questionnaire on the basic concepts about the UPP was used, and an observation guide with items about preventive activities; which allowed to obtain the following: the knowledge about prevention in UPP was higher in the nursing staff with 35%; whereas the assistant staff was 25%, regarding the activities that they carry out for preventing the UPP, 30% of the nursing professionals does not carry out them; while 40% of the assistant staff do it; in addition, it was possible to determine during August 8.9% (4) UPP's cases; with these considerations it is important that the Manager of the internal medicine service of the H.I.A.L promotes spaces of training about the prevention of the UPP, specially to the assistant staff; besides, to raise strategies that allow the fulfillment of the UPP preventive actions by the nursing staff.
