Actitudes del profesional de enfermería ante fallecimiento de pacientes en el Hospital General Isidro Ayora

In the field of health, it is necessary to deepen the study of the attitudes of nurses to the phenomenon of death, because they can influence the quality of care provided, especially to patients with forecasts reserved or processes whose end is death. This descriptive study allowed us to determine attitudes to the death of 66 nurses working in clinical services, intensive care, internal medicine, surgery and emergency Isidro Ayora Hospital of Loja. Attitudes Questionnaire Death (CAM) was used, the same that includes 33 proposals, but for this study were selected 25 distribution for the 3 components; cognitive component, which includes the passage attitude; affective component has the attitude of fear; and the behavioral component in it are the attitudes of avoidance, acceptance and departure. For processing the answers the Excel program was used. Among the attitudes that have the highest percentage are; avoidance, fear and acceptance, the latter has a higher number of positive responses, being considered the attitude of most frequently among nurses, it was determined that the passage and exit are absent attitudes among these professionals. While nurses accept death also avoids having thoughts about death, causing some ambiguity in their decisions, reflecting the insufficient preparation to face realistically the phenomenon of death.
