Yhteenveto: | Adolescence is a period of transition in the life of the human being, experiencing changes in individual, family and community level, marks the end of childhood, adulthood and announcing the beginning of reproductive age. Currently the onset of sexual intercourse occurs at an earlier age, coupled with a limited distribution and incorrect use of contraceptives becomes vulnerable adolescents in sexual and reproductive health. An emerging public health issues such as early pregnancy economic and social, psychological, academic to society. This descriptive research was developed with the aim of characterizing the use of contraceptive methods in preventing pregnancy early teens, he was held in the College Hernan Gallardo Moscoso city of Loja. The population consisted of 79 high school teenagers level of which 59% are female and 41% male. The survey with open questions that led to knowledge, use and reasons that put adolescents to use or not use any contraceptive method was used. The results indicated that most adolescents have knowledge about specific topics in contraceptives as: definition, utility rates, female-male contraceptive use and those needing medical supervision, finding flaws in their identification. The most used contraceptive methods by adolescents were male condom, withdrawal and emergency pill, emphasizing the use of hormonal methods like implants and injections in which adolescents with stable partner and the reasons that put under investigation for using contraceptive methods were, avoid early pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, allowing to have a free, safe and responsible sexuality. As for the reasons why teens do not use contraception they were: having life projects and act firmly, little information on contraception, sexual and reproductive health, putting moral standards and ethical, religious issues, practicing abstinence.
