Özet:The present investigation called "Characterization of the coffee value chain under the independent and associative modality in the Las Lajas canton" the main objective to characterize the coffee value chain under the independent and associative modality in the Las Lajas canton, province of El Oro, period 2020-2021.”. To carry out the objectives, the descriptive method was used, it allowed to identify and describe in detail each of the actors and the activities they carry out, the connection that exists between them within the CV; The comparative method was used to analyze the CV under both modalities, resulting in that the predominant modality in the canton is independent, mostly male producers, with an average age of 60 years. This being one of the reasons why they are not interested in being part of an association, the collection of information to obtain data was carried out through: application of surveys directed to direct actors, interviews applied to indirect actors, working a non-sample probabilistic for convenience, in order to gain greater access to persons of interest. As the main results obtained, it was obtained that the CV of both modalities present similarities in terms of their general structure, with the producer being the most relevant actor, the independent coffee farmer, as can be corroborated in table 4, is the one who is at a disadvantage compared to the associated coffee growers without having greater benefit from other actors, due to lack of training, difficulty in entering the market, unstable prices, Associated producers have advantages in these fields since the association supports them by giving them price security, training for the application of new cultivation techniques, support with inputs for crop maintenance, machinery for coffee processing, agreement with companies to sell their product to international level. A problem present in both modalities is the abandonment and the lack of support, at the local and national level, for which, getting both the public and private sectors to redirect their support to the coffee sector is considered a reason for the development of research work.
