| Summary: | The dog known as ''Ganacho'' is a Creole canine responsible for accompanying goats to the forest. Currently, there are no studies about this canine and it is important to maintain and protect the genetic resources, considering the help it provides to the goat farmer in the care of his animals. It should be considered that there are several factors that can alter these values in a normal way, such as extrinsic factors like altitude, and intrinsic factors that influence such as: breed, age, sex, etc. The present work had as purpose to establish the reference ranges of hemoglobin and hematocrit of the adult ''Ganacho'' dog and to relate these values with the altitude of its habitat, sex, weight and age. Samples were taken in the dry forest of southern Ecuador, in Zapotillo, Calvas, Paltas, Olmedo, Chaguarpamba and Gonzanamá cantons between June and October 2023. A non-probabilistic ''snowball'' sampling was performed, obtaining 50 samples of female and male canines, 5 ml of blood collected by puncture of the cephalic vein in Vacutainer tubes with EDTA anticoagulant was obtained. The average value obtained for hemoglobin was 12.97 g/dl and the average hematocrit value was 38.58%. The statistical program used was SPSS and it was determined that there is no significant difference between the proposed variables, concluding that hemoglobin and hematocrit are independent of altitude, sex, weight and age. |
