Izvleček:The research was aimed at the investigation of the prevalence of depression in the elderly who were part of the Beautiful Life program in Mera Canton Township. Information from 40 respondents was taken. The study design was a field study which was cross-sectional, descriptive and bibliographic. Observation and survey techniques were used. As a result, it was found that women had 77% higher depression rates than men. Older people who were 65 to 69 years of age had a 70% higher depression rate. Mixed race ethnicity had the highest rates with 97%. 63% of older adults had a primary school education while 93% were of urban origin. About 70% of the people studied were married. About 57% of the group had income from the family with 23% receiving bonus human development. The prevalence of depression in the population is 75%. The level of depression in the majority is moderate with 62.5%. The most influential factor for depression is disease with 53% followed by inattention, loneliness are in the lower percentages such as 20% and 17% respectively. The study concludes that depression is highly prevalent in adulthood among women with diseases
