| description | This research corresponds to a qualitative, descriptive and documentary bibliographic review, the study was carried out using exclusion and inclusion criteria, for this, several scientific articles based on Oral Respirators were analyzed, which aimed to recognize the different factors that lead to a patient to develop the bad habit of breathing through the mouth, in addition to analyzing each of the factors describing their clinical characteristics and being able to detail the different treatments to counteract the effects that the pathology may produce. 28 documentary-type articles were considered from 2014 to 2020, bibliographic reviews, clinical cases, books, as well as theses that helped organize the information. Within the study we can highlight that hypertrophy of adenoids and tonsils as well as allergic rhinitis together with deviation of the nasal septum and idiopathic hypertrophy of turbinates are the main factors that lead to mouth breathing, within the clinical characteristics we have crowding, protrusion, open bite, incompetent lip closure, long and narrow face, narrow and deep palate. Regarding treatments, we have as main myofunctional therapy, orthopedic treatments such as the multifunctional dental splint KEYWORDS: ORAL RESPIRATOR / ETIOLOGY / CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS / TREATMENT. |

Regarding treatments, we have as main myofunctional therapy, orthopedic treatments such as the multifunctional dental splint KEYWORDS: ORAL RESPIRATOR / ETIOLOGY / CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS / TREATMENT.La presente investigación corresponde a una revisión bibliográfica de tipo cualitativa, descriptiva y documental, el estudio fue realizado mediante criterios de exclusión e inclusión, para ello fueron analizados varios artículos científicos basados en Respiradores Bucales, los cuales tuvieron como objetivo reconocer los diferentes factores que llevan a un paciente a desarrollar el mal hábito de respirar por la boca, además analizar cada uno de los factores describiendo las características clínicas de los mismos y poder detallar los diferentes tratamientos para contrarrestar los efectos que se puedan producir la patología. Se consideraron 28 artículos de tipo documental desde el año 2014 hasta el año 2020, revisiones bibliográficas, casos clínicos, libros, además de tesis que ayudaron a la organización de la información. Dentro del estudio podemos resaltar que la hipertrofia de adenoides y de amígdalas además de la rinitis alérgica junto con la desviación del tabique nasal y la hipertrofia idiopática de cornetes son los principales factores que llevan a una respiración bucal, dentro de las características clínicas tenemos apiñamiento, protrusión, mordida abierta, cierre labial incompetente, cara larga y estrecha, paladar estrecho y profundo. En lo que respecta a tratamientos tenemos como principal la terapia miofuncional, tratamientos ortopédicos como la férula dental multifuncional.
