总结: | Elderly people consumes medicine that associated to their vulnerability, predispose them to be more susceptible to adverse reactions, mainly with its indiscriminate use. The purpose of the study was to determinate drugs consume behavior and its relationship with socio-demographic factors, chronic diseases, drugs consume behavior (polypharmacy and self-medication), characterization and familiar functionality in elderly people of the Zone 7 of Ecuador (Loja, Zamora Chinchipe y El Oro provinces), during the year 2016. A descriptive, analytical of transversal cut study was carried as a part of macro project denominated “Life Quality of Elderly in the Zone 7, 2016”. The universe was formed by 99 563 people older than 65 years old according to the INEC 2016 projection. 1146 elderly people were evaluated through a guided survey that allow to get the socio demographic part, polypharmacy, self-medication and familiar characterization; familiar functionality was measured through FFSIL test, SPSS v.16 software was used for the data analysis. Into the results, the average age was 75.50 years old, predominating the male gender with 51.50%. The prevalence of polypharmacy was about 37.53%, and self-medication with 23.20%; Drugs consume behavior were associated statically with the familiar dysfunction, socio-demographic factors (gender, instruction level and retirement) and preexistent chronic diseases.
