description This descriptive study investigated the use of role plays in the improvement of the speaking skills with students of sixth year at Luis Humberto Benitez Costa public school. A ten –session intervention plan was implemented to improve the skill. The researcher- designed a test and questionnaire that were used to measure the ten students’ progress and perception of role plays use. An observation guide was also used after every session to confirm the students’ progress. The results indicated that the use of role plays facilitated meaningfully the improvement of speaking skill which was reflected in the noticeable increase of the posttest scores and students’ progress during the intervention. Answers from the questionnaire also confirmed the enthusiasm and positive attitude toward working with speaking. To conclude this study helped the students to improve their speaking skills, the researcher to sharpen her teachings skills and the community to have a well-prepared teacher.

Un plan de intervención de diez sesiones se llevó a cabo para mejorar la habilidad. El investigador diseño una prueba y un cuestionario que fueron utilizados para medir el progreso y la percepción del uso de los juegos de rol en los diez estudiantes. Una guía de observación también se utilizó en cada sesión para poder ver el crecimiento de los estudiantes. Los resultados indicaron que el uso de juegos de rol facilitó de manera significativa la mejora de la habilidad que se reflejó en el notable aumento de las puntuaciones en el post-test y el progreso de los estudiantes durante la intervención. Las respuestas del cuestionario también confirmaron el entusiasmo y la actitud positiva hacia el trabajo.
