description The principal objective of this research is to evaluate the competencies of chemistry teachers in Ecuador. The disciplinary, didactic and research competencies acquired by teachers in this subject are analyzed and examined. The methodological process used was fieldwork, whose technique was a Likert-type survey that evaluated these three specific competencies. It was emailed to approximately 150 teachers in the area of natural sciences in the subject of chemistry, but only answered thirty. The results reveal that, about disciplinary competencies, 80% of respondents say they totally agree and according with the development of these skills. In terms of teaching skills, 92% agree and strongly agree that the application of various methodological strategies contributes to improving the educational environment. With regard to research competencies, 75% of teachers state that they agree or strongly agree. 15% remain in a neutral position and 5% disagree with competencies, which proposes the need, in the future, to dialog and reflect on the reasons for the relative importance of building these aspects in the educational process. It means that for teachers research is still not the priority, but didactics is, even above disciplinary knowledge, that is, chemical knowledge. Se analizan y examinan las competencias disciplinares, didácticas e investigativas adquiridas por los docentes de esta materia. El proceso metodológico empleado fue un trabajo de campo, cuya técnica fue una encuesta tipo Likert que evaluaba estas tres competencias específicas. Se envió por correo electrónico a aproximadamente 250 docentes del área de ciencias naturales en la asignatura de química, pero solo respondieron 30. Los resultados revelan que, con respecto a las competencias disciplinares, el 80% de los encuestados manifiesta encontrarse totalmente de acuerdo y de acuerdo con el desarrollo de estas habilidades. En cuanto a las competencias didácticas, el 92% está de acuerdo y totalmente de acuerdo con que la aplicación de diversas estrategias metodológicas contribuye a mejorar el entorno educativo. En lo referente a las competencias investigativas, el 75% de los docentes manifiestan que se encuentran de acuerdo y totalmente de acuerdo con que estas. Un 15% se mantiene en una posición neutral y un 5% no están de acuerdo con respectó a las competencias, lo que propone la necesidad, de en un futuro, dialogar y reflexionar sobre las razones de la importancia relativa de construir estos aspectos en el proceso educativo. Significa que para los docentes todavía investigar no es la prioridad, pero sí la didáctica, aun por encima del conocimiento disciplinar, es decir, del saber químico.
