The present research study had as objective to determine the factors associated to the professional vocation of nursing; As well as measure the level of vocation in the students of the Nursing Career of Universidad Nacional de Loja during the academic period 2016-2017. The descriptive, transversal method was used, allowing to describe and analyze each one of the variables. The sample consisted of 60 students from I to VIII cycle. Data were collected through the application of two instruments, the first one was the Register of Psychosocial Factors associated with the vocation in which the sex, age, self-esteem level and knowledge of the profession can be identified; and the Vocation Assessment Test that allowed the measure of level of vocation to that profession. The results obtained the female gender represents 73.3%, and they are in an age of 19 to 21 years, in relation to the level of self-esteem, 86.7% presents high self-esteem; On the knowledge of the profession, 58.6% have sufficient knowledge about the profession, which needs to be filled with knowledge about the functions and opportunities that nurses have in their work performance; and 48.4% have low vocational level, that is to say they don´t have the attitudes, nor skills that this profession needs.
