Summary:Vocation is defined as the project of life that each one elaborate on the basis of their multiple experiences and in the confrontation of a coherent system of values that give meaning and direction to the life of the individual. The present research study had as objective to determine the factors associated to the professional vocation of nursing; As well as measure the level of vocation in the students of the Nursing Career of Universidad Nacional de Loja during the academic period 2016-2017. The descriptive, transversal method was used, allowing to describe and analyze each one of the variables. The sample consisted of 60 students from I to VIII cycle. Data were collected through the application of two instruments, the first one was the Register of Psychosocial Factors associated with the vocation in which the sex, age, self-esteem level and knowledge of the profession can be identified; and the Vocation Assessment Test that allowed the measure of level of vocation to that profession. The results obtained the female gender represents 73.3%, and they are in an age of 19 to 21 years, in relation to the level of self-esteem, 86.7% presents high self-esteem; On the knowledge of the profession, 58.6% have sufficient knowledge about the profession, which needs to be filled with knowledge about the functions and opportunities that nurses have in their work performance; and 48.4% have low vocational level, that is to say they don´t have the attitudes, nor skills that this profession needs.
