Izvleček: | Helicobacter pylori is a Gram-negative bacterium considered as a definitive biological carcinogen, because its permanence in the gastric mucosa leads to the development of cancer and other pathologies. This bacterium is easily transmitted (fecal-oral or oral-oral) and therefore affects a large portion of the global population, with developing countries having the highest rates of infection, due to the socioeconomic factors in which the population lives, consumption of untreated water, overcrowding and poor hygienic practices. The present study was a systematic review that analyzed the prevalence and factors associated with Helicobacter pylori infection in the American population. This study followed the guidelines of the Cochrane system, and the search for information was carried out in databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Dialnet and LILACS, using three combinations of terms applied to the study variables, thus obtaining 3,798 studies which after screening with the PRISMA model, 28 were classified. The quality of the final articles was evaluated according to the JBI checklist meanwhile the present systematic review was evaluated using the PRISMA checklist, where 3 articles were excluded from the results for being substandard (high risk of bias). According to the data analyzed, North America has the lowest prevalence rates (37.1%), while in Latin America they rise up to 83%, this being related to the risk factors of the population such as: a low socioeconomic level that leads to living in overcrowded conditions and consuming untreated water. It should be noted that living conditions linked with a country's development are determining factors for the infection and increase in prevalence of Helicobacter pylori |
