| Resumo: | Intestinal parasites constitute a major public health concern due to its high prevalence rates. It is a common pathology in pediatric consultation because it is one of the causes of malnutrition in the pediatric population. Children and teenagers from the parish Buenavista of the canton Chaguarpamba are prone to infection by parasites, and therefore; to acquire some type of malnutrition. This study is a descriptive cross-sectional which identified the presence of intestinal parasites by microscopic examination of fecal samples with physiologic saline and Lugol, also, it was possible to get the nutritional status of patients by taking anthropometric measures and establish the relationship between the two variables. Results were disseminated to the population under study and were given the treatment. In this study identifies intestinal parasites in 106 of the 137 students of the School and the College, in greater proportion are protozoa as, E. Histolytica 48.91%, E. coli 43.80%, Chilomastix M. 13.14%, Iodamoeba B. 7.30%, Blastocystis H. 2.19%, Enteromonas H. 2.19%, and Giardia L. 2.19%. The Helminth parasites were found in smaller proportion; such as Ascaris L. 3.65%, Trichuris T. 1.46%, and Hymenolepis N. 2.19%. Being in the School the most affected female with 52.46% and male gender College with 53.33%. It was determined the nutritional status of students of the School and College, so taking in students from the School male gender has higher malnutrition rate with 52.78% female unlike with 47.22%. It was possible to relate the presence of intestinal parasites with nutritional status, since parasitized the 106 students, 79.2% had malnutrition and 20.8% did not present any type of malnutrition.The results were disseminated to the entire study population using the parish chairman, also providing education and prevention lectures to parents, students and teachers. With the support of the leadership of Health No. 4 was achieved given appropriate medical care for patients with any degree parasitized or malnourished and their respective treatment for free.
