Summary:The following study shows an investigation focused on determining the surgical follow-up of the tibia fractures due to traffic accidents, where it is seen that osteosynthesis with external fixators is the most commonly used in surgical treatments, the information was gathered from statistical data from patients entering to the surgical area of “Hospital General Isidro Ayora” in the city of Loja, the study was of a qualitative, descriptive, prospective and transversal type, taking into account 86 clinical histories with the diagnosis of tibia fractures from which 65 clinic histories of patients were taken into account to meet the inclusion criteria. With this study, it was known that the fractures of tibia caused by traffic accidents and its subsequent surgical operation using a data collection card. The main results were: that a 78% of patients appeared to be male; 35% from the same group were between 30 to 41 years of age; a 62% indicates that the most frequent cause of tibia fractures by traffic accidents belong to motorcycles, in addition 54% of the patients showed a tibia fracture TYPE III mainly IIIA according to the classification of Gustilo and 37% of surgical management that was given was osteosynthesis with external fixators.
