Резюме: | Reproductive biotechnologies are a series of biotechniques that increase reproductive efficiency and improve genetics, but there is scarce information on the use of these biotechnologies in guinea pig production, and even less on the application of estrus synchronization protocols. Therefore, in this work, the efficiency of two estrus synchronization protocols, PRESYNCH and COSYNCH in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus), was evaluated by means of the absence of the vaginal closure membrane and the count of epithelio-vaginal cells. Thirty-four guinea pigs were used, to which the protocols PRESYNCH (D-18 PGF2α; D-8 PGF2α; D0 GnRH; D5 PGF2α; D7 GnRH) (n=17) and COSYNCH (D0 GnRH; D6 PGF2α; D8 GnRH) (n=17) in a completely randomized design; 12 hours after completion of the protocols, visualization of the vaginal membrane and swabbing for epithelio-vaginal cell count were performed. In each protocol, only one female presented absence of the vaginal closure membrane. In addition, the females that presented absence of membrane showed a higher percentage of keratinized cells, on average 49.25%. On the other hand, the cell count showed that the COSYNCH protocol presented a higher percentage of superficial cells (29.5%) and a lower percentage of basal and parabasal cells (27.9%), which shows a higher probability of females approaching estrus, compared to the PRESYNCH protocol, which showed a lower percentage of superficial cells (22.3%) and a higher percentage of basal and parabasal cells (34.4%). We can conclude that vaginal membrane and epithelio-vaginal cell counts serve as indicators of the presence of estrus in guinea pigs. Also, by means of this technique, it was demonstrated that the COSYNCH protocol was more efficient than the PRESYNCH protocol, bringing females closer to estrus. |
