Summary:The ccurrent research aims to determine the level of knowledge about the emergency contraception among the students of Emiliano Ortega Espinoza School in Canton Catamayo, identify the attitudes that the students have, facing the emergency contraception, and correlate the level of knowledge and attitudes presented to emergency contraception among the students under study. The study is descriptive, prospective and transversal during the period March-August 2017. The universe is formed by 500 students between the first, second and third year of high school. Taking as a sample 150 students meeting the inclusion criteria, a survey was applied to measure the level of knowledge and attitudes, reaching the following results: 36% have a low level of knowledge followed by high knowledge 33% and average knowledge level 31%. In regard to the attitudes presented to emergency contraception the results were: 73% had negative attitude, 16% indecision, and 11% accepted it. By correlating the level of knowledge with the attitudes, it was found that students who have high knowledge 24% have an attitude of rejection, 7% acceptance, and indecision 2%. Students with an average level of knowledge have a greater percentage of a rejection attitude, it was 26%, 1% for acceptance, and indecision 4%. Finally students who have a low level of knowledge have an attitude of rejection 23% of them, 3% for acceptance and indecision 10%. Concluding that students have a lack of knowledge about the emergency contraception and his attitude to it is of rejection. Keywords: emergency contraception, adolescents, knowledge and attitudes
