Factores de riesgo asociados a la disminución de la agudeza visual en niños de Séptimo Año de Educación Básica de la Escuela Miguel Riofrío N° 2 enero-junio 2015

The decrease in visual acuity is a prevalent situation in school children, lack of diagnosis and inadequate study of irrigation factors, associated with it, generate ocular pathologies that can cause permanent loss of vision, thus decreasing their quality of life, Here the importance of an early diagnosis. Due to this problem, this research was carried out in a descriptive and analytical quantitative study in which the main objective was to analyze the association between risk factors and the reduction of the visual acuity present in children in the seventh year of basic education Of the Miguel Riofrío School No. 2. The universe was constituted by 120 students who were given visual acuity, using the optotypes of the Snellen table. The following results were obtained: he (53.3%) of the population under investigation presented a decrease in bilateral visual acuity; And (52.5%) with a higher frequency in the right eye than in the left eye (44.2%). Among the risk factors associated mainly to decrease visual acuity were hereditary antecedents with one (63.3%); Eye infections (40.8%) and prematurity corresponded to (5.8%). As for the relationship between the associated factors that lead to a decrease in visual acuity in the students investigated are the family history with a higher frequency (71%), followed by eye infections (58.3%), and Finally the prematurity with a (40%). Un like schoolchildren without this kind of background. The frequency of schoolchildren with decreased visual acuity is high; the only factor that is associated is controllable because the early identification of the problem conditions a timely treatment Key Words: risk factors - visual acuity - school
