Özet:The Laritaco shrub, whose scientific name is “Vernonanthura patens”, currently faces a notable lack of detailed studies on its chemical composition, which limits its potential use in veterinary medicine. The objective of the present work was to carry out the chemical characterization of the Laritaco shrub for use in veterinary therapeutics. A descriptive, cross-sectional, observational design was used, where 10 samples of Laritaco were taken, weighing 100 grams each, then homogenized and a sample of one kilogram was prepared. This procedure was done in triplicate, and then each sample was distilled. The type of sampling used was non- probabilistic by convenience. The following indicators were determined: yield, Chemical composition in qualitative terms., and quantitative chemical composition. The results of the analysis of variables are represented in tables and graphs. The yield obtained was 0.12%, which indicates the average amount of essential oil extracted per 1000 kg of plant material. A standard deviation of 0.0024% indicates a small variation in the yields of individual samples relative to the average. In addition, the chemical composition of the essential oil of Laritaco provided a total of 59 chemical compounds. Among the most important are Caryophyllene <(E)->, Germacrene D, Copaene <α->, Muurolene <γ->, Humulene <α->, Elemene <δ->, Myrcene, Acoradiene <α->, Pinene <α-> and Cadinene <δ->, among others. It is concluded that most of the identified compounds...the biological activity of Laritaco stands out, which could be used as an antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antifungal.
