| Резюме: | Alcohol abuse is considered the most important cause of liver diseases, since it generates alterations in the levels of liver enzymes. This situation contributes significantly to 3.8% of deaths globally and ranks as the third reason for preventable death in adults. To address this serious problem, a systematic review of the literature was carried out through a rigorous, retrospective and secondary study. In this process, the evidence from 22 primary investigations collected from recognized databases such as Scielo, Lilacs and PubMed was synthesized. These investigations covered various designs, including cross-sectional, case-control, and cohort studies, conducted in different geographic regions: Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe. The main objective was to collect detailed information about the observed changes in liver tests, as well as their value in the evaluation of liver damage in adults who consume alcoholic beverages. The results obtained globally showed the existence of altered levels in the liver profile as a consequence of alcohol consumption. These changes were reflected in increased levels of AST, GGT, ALT, and bilirubin. Alkaline phosphatase fluctuated in both increases and decreases, and a decrease in albumin levels was observed. It is important to highlight that altered liver parameters, especially when the AST/ALT ratio > 2, turn out to be valuable tools in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of liver diseases in individuals who consume alcohol. In conclusion, this study identified significant changes in liver profile parameters in adults who consume alcohol, reflecting the adverse impact of this substance on liver health. In addition, the usefulness of the hepatogram in the adult population that consumes alcoholic beverages has been widely demonstrated, highlighting its importance in clinical decisions |
