| Итог: | The covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated income inequalities between men and women in Ecuador, negatively affecting women's economic situation. In 2019, the average income gap was $52.8 between men and women. In this sense, this research proposes to examine the income gaps between men and women before and after covid-19 in Ecuador (2019 and 2023), using statistical and econometric techniques, in order to propose mechanisms to mitigate economic disparity. The data used are from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC). Oaxaca-Blinder models were used to identify the factors underlying these gaps and Propensity Score Matching was used to evaluate the effect of employment status on income disparity. Women were found to earn on average 64.4% of men's hourly wages, with the earnings gap widening from $31,044 in 2019 to $39,540 by the end of 2023. Education and work experience showed a greater influence on earnings by gender. A policy is proposed to mitigate these gaps through education and job training strategies, together with measures to combat discrimination and occupational segregation. |
