For this reason, the purpose of this research work was to evaluate the relationship between overweight and the consumption of processed foods in students from the fourth to seventh year of General Basic Education of the Teniente Hugo Ortiz de Loja school in the academic period October 2018 - March 2019. This is a quantitative, descriptive, correlational and cross-sectional study, the technique used was the survey applied to a sample of 173 schoolchildren, obtaining the following results; 37.6% of the students were overweight; the highest proportion was in the female sex with 21.4%, in ages between 10 and 11 years. It was determined that 89.9% of students consume the highest amount of processed foods in school and only 12.2% consume them at home. It was also identified that there is a relationship between overweight and consumption of processed foods, with high fat products being part of the intake of students, followed by those with a high content of sugar and salt. Keywords: Children, Products, Body weightEl sobrepeso es una enfermedad que se caracteriza por el aumento de peso corporal por encima de los valores que se consideran normales o aceptables (imc=18,5-24,9), siendo los niños, adolescentes y jóvenes los más afectados, esto se atribuye a los cambios socioeconómicos actuales que han llevado a padres e hijos a consumir alimentos inadecuados. Es por ello que el presente trabajo de investigación tuvo como propósito, evaluar la relación entre el sobrepeso y el consumo de alimentos procesados en estudiantes de cuarto a séptimo año de Educación General Básica de la escuela Teniente Hugo Ortiz de Loja en el período académico octubre 2018 – marzo 2019. Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo, correlacional y de corte transversal, la técnica utilizada fue la encuesta aplicada a una muestra de 173 escolares, obteniendo los siguientes resultados; el 37,6 % de los estudiantes presentaron sobrepeso; la mayor proporción se ubicó en el sexo femenino con el 21,4 %, en edades comprendidas entre 10 y 11 años. Se determinó que el 89.9% de los estudiantes consumen la mayor cantidad de alimentos procesados en la escuela y solo un 12,2% los consumen en casa. Además, se identificó que existe relación entre el sobrepeso y consumo de alimentos procesados, siendo parte de la ingesta de los estudiantes los productos altos en grasas, seguido de aquellos que tienen alto contenido de azúcar y sal.
