Description
Summary:Dengue infection can be clinically unapparent and cause a disease of varying intensity ranging from febrile forms with varying degrees of impact on the organism to severe cases of shock and large hemorrhages. Social participation is essential to prevent dengue given that the Aedes Aegypti mosquito grows, reproduces and feeds in our own homes. This research is a study of a descriptive, cross-sectional nature with the objective of identifying and determining the public's level of knowledge and the practices applied toward dengue prevention. The study sample comprised 200 people aged 18-60 years old; a survey designed to gather information for the study was conducted. The results obtained were processed using the statistical package 'Statistical Package for the Social Sciences' (SPSS), Windows 19.0 Spanish version and Microsoft Excel 2012. It was reported that 43.5% of respondents have good knowledge of dengue, 35% have a regular level of knowledge and 21.5% have poor knowledge. Prevention practices are inadequate with a percentage of 64% and only 36% of participants properly perform these practices. Of the prevention practices carried out by the population, 100% use moquito nets to prevent dengue carrying mosquito bites; 55% use repellents, 33.5% insecticides and 31.5% of the population use aromatic substances (Palo Santo, incense). Addtionally, 62.5% of participants use larvicide to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, 53.5% got rid of stagnant water, 50% wash and cover tanks and 19.5% of respondents do not carry out any form of dengue prevention.
