This study aimed to determine how physical and chemical characteristics of soil influence on the growth of "Juglans netropica Diels in the "Parque Universitario Francisco Vivar Castro" sector and Eriotheca ruizzi (K.Schum) A.Robyns in the "El Chilco" reserve. It was carried out a soil analysis for each sector and established the annual diametric growth for each specie; physiographic and dasometric variables were considered. In the analysis of soil, trees were selected from where composite samples were collected to two depths for its subsequent analysis in a laboratory; for determining the growth, core and slices of wood were obtained in order to be analyzed by using LintabTM6 ring measuring system and the Tsap Win program in the Dendrochronology laboratory. For the interpretation and graphic representation of data in the analysis of soil, double- entry tables were used in order to make comparisons between sites and trees. To determine the influence of soil on growth, it was carried out the data analysis by using the Restudio statistical program, in which the analysis of main components was developed. The gathered information through results allowed to establish that the growth of Eriotheca ruizzi (K. Schum) A. Robyns trees are related to the dominance and slope of the tree, whereas high calcium and magnesium contents did not facilitate to its growth. With respect to the Juglans neotropica Diel trees, the growth is very related to coverage, diameter and content of magnesium, while loam soils are limiting factors with a light percentage that reached to the soil. At the end of the research, it is necessary to continue with similar studies to other forest species in similar and different ecosystems that allow to determine requirements of each one and factors which are contributing or limiting growth of forest species. Key words: coverage, dendrochronology, dominance, growth dynamic, soil, physiographic and dasometric variables.El suelo es un factor determinante en las condiciones de cada sitio que afectan en la dinámica de crecimiento de las especies forestales, pues provee todos los requerimientos nutricionales a los árboles. El presente estudio tuvo como propósito determinar cómo las características físicas y químicas del suelo influyen en el crecimiento de Juglans neotropica Diels en el sector del Parque Universitario Francisco Vivar Castro y Eriotheca ruizii (K. Schum.) A. Robyns en la reserva El Chilco. Se realizó el análisis de suelo para cada sector y se determinó el crecimiento diamétrico anual para cada especie, se consideraron variables fisiográficas y dasométricas. En el análisis de suelo se seleccionaron los árboles de donde se recolectaron muestras compuestas a dos profundidades para su posterior análisis en laboratorio; para la determinación del crecimiento, se obtuvieron núcleos y rodajas de madera para ser examinadas mediante el uso del sistema de medición de anillos LintabTM6, y el programa TsapWin en el laboratorio de Dendrocronología. Para la interpretación y representación gráfica de datos en el análisis de suelo se utilizó tablas de doble entrada para realizar comparaciones entre sitios y entre árboles. Para determinar la influencia del suelo en el crecimiento se realizó el análisis de datos con el programa estadístico R donde se realizó un análisis de componentes principales. La información obtenida mediante los resultados permitió determinar que el crecimiento de los árboles de Eriotheca ruizii (K. Schum.) A. Robyns tienen relación con la dominancia del árbol y la pendiente, en cambio, los contenidos altos de calcio y magnesio no favorecieron a su crecimiento. En el caso de los árboles de Juglans neotropica Diels, el crecimiento tiene mucha relación con la cobertura, el diámetro y el contenido de magnesio, mientras que los suelos francos con el porcentaje de luz que llega al suelo son factores limitantes. Realizado el estudio, es necesario continuar con estudios similares a otras especies forestales en ecosistemas similares y diferentes, que permitan determinar los requerimientos de cada especie y que factores están contribuyendo o limitando el crecimiento de las especies forestales.
