Sumari: | Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic model that is framed within contextual or third generation therapies. It focuses on the acceptance of emotional and cognitive experiences, the identification of personal values and the promotion of committed action. lt has scientific evidence to address various mental disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which is characterized by an intense emotional reaction to a traumatic event, manifesting with cognitive and behavioral alterations. Despite the availability of traditional therapies, some patients with PTSD do not respond satisfactorily, underscoring the importance of investigating other approaches such as ACT. The paucity of national studies in this field and the increasing prevalence of PTSD in adults reinforce this need. This research aimed to describe the scientific evidence of ACT in the improvement of PTSD symptomatology in adults through the identification of the sociodemographic characteristics of PTSD and the ACT components most commonly used in the treatment of PTSD. A bibliographic documentary study, non-experimental design, quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional approach was carried out. A bibliographic synthesis was developed using the PRISMA method with scientific literature from databases such as: Pub Med, Dialnet, Redalyc, Scielo, Science Direct and Medline, and selection criteria were applied to form a sample of 25 scientific articles. The results indicated high effectiveness of the therapy in the reduction of PTSD symptomatology. Among the sociodemographic characteristics, a higher prevalence of male gender and white ethnicity was found, the most experienced traumatic event was sexual abuse and the most used ACT component was acceptance. Based on these results, a psychoeducational guide was prepared with the aim of informing the population about this topic |
