This research aims to analyze western and ancestral childbirth in patients attended at the Saraguro Assistance Hospital in the province of Loja as well as to determine its prevalence, identify the techniques used, characterization and complications. A quantitative, retrospective, cross-sectional study, with a sample of 466 patients (290 ancestral and 176 westerns) who met the inclusion criteria, the technique used is the recording and observation of medical records. The results, in terms of prevalence: ancestral delivery 62.2% and western 37.8%; within the techniques used for total users who chose the ancestral delivery is evidenced that 32.17% chose technique knees, on the other hand, in the western part, lithotomy occurs (37.8%); in respect of complications, it is observed that both ancestral and western births do not present relevant complications with 42.5% and 28.5% respectively. However, in both types of delivery, lower percentages of tearing are present, followed by fetal distress and placental retention. In conclusion, the majority of users prefer ancestral delivery since they present fewer complications concerning western delivery. Keywords: lithotomy, techniques, complications, humanized childbirth, intercultural.El Ecuador intercultural ha consolidado el sistema de salud convencional con las tradiciones indígenas apuntando a condiciones de igualdad, de respetar sus costumbres y prácticas tradicionales y disminuir los índices de mortalidad materna infantil, siendo importante informar de una alternativa real que empodere a la madre y le permita explorar otras posibilidades de alumbrar, de igual forma se implemente de manera correcta el parto culturalmente adecuado en todos los hospitales del país. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el parto occidental y ancestral en pacientes atendidas en el Hospital Asistencial Saraguro de la provincia de Loja así como determinar su prevalencia, identificar las técnicas utilizadas, la caracterización y complicaciones; estudio de tipo cuantitativo, retrospectivo, transversal, con una muestra de 466 pacientes (290 ancestral y 176 occidental) que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión, la técnica utilizada es el fichaje y la observación de historias clínicas. Se obtuvo como resultados, en cuanto a la prevalencia: parto ancestral 62.2 % y occidental 37.8%; dentro de las técnicas utilizadas del total de las usuarias que optaron por el parto ancestral se evidencia que el 32.17% eligió la técnica de rodillas, en el parto occidental en cambio se da la litotomía (37.8%); en cuanto a las complicaciones se observa que tanto en el parto ancestral como en el occidental no se presentan complicaciones relevantes con el 42.5% y 28.5% respectivamente, sin embargo en los dos tipos de parto se presenta porcentajes inferiores en desgarro, seguido por sufrimiento fetal y retención placentaria. Concluyendo que la mayoría de las usuarias prefieren el parto ancestral ya que presentan menores complicaciones en relación al parto occidental.
