| Shrnutí: | Informed consent is expressed as the free compliance, voluntary and conscious of a patient, manifested in full possession of his faculties after receiving the right information to accept or decline medical care. It is certainly more than sign a document, is the ultimate expression of relationship, doctor-patient. This study focused on determining the quality of Informed Consent information provided by the health team to the users undergoing surgical procedures; through a cross - descriptive study in a sample of 60 patients undergoing surgery at the General Hospital “Isidro Ayora”, July-August 2015 period. By applying the interview, the following results were achieved: most patients had substantial knowledge with 58.43 %; 67.7 % knew the risks and benefits of surgery he underwent; both men (47 %) and women (53 %) achieved a substantial level of knowledge with 57% and 59 % respectively, who were in the age range of 19 to 73 years, earning a substantial level of knowledge 61.6 % (over 65 years) and 37.5 % (under 65 years). They concluded that there are patients who do not know the procedure, risks and benefits of surgery; mainly associated with the level of education and the elderly, as the sex of the patient had no significant influence on the understanding of Informed Consent.
