| Sumari: | Antibiotic resistance is a worldwide public health problem; vancomycin resistance is prevalent in Staphylococcus sp. and Enterococcus sp. strains, limiting therapeutic options and causing complicated and ineffective treatments. The present systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA method guidelines, with a search of open access articles published in the last 10 years on the prevalence, associated factors, and treatment of infections caused by vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus sp. and Enterococcus sp. After screening and selection, 14 articles were included (7 meta-analyses, 1 systematic review, 1 case-control study, and 5 descriptive cross-sectional studies). The quality of the included studies and of this research was examined using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tool. According to the analyzed studies, there is a high prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus with intermediate vancomycin resistance (VISA) in Asia (3.42%) and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) in the Americas (3.6%), while Staphylococcus aureus with intermediate heteroresistance to vancomycin (hVISA) has a uniform distribution (6.8% in the three continents). Furthermore, vancomycinresistant Enterococcus (VRE) is more prevalent in Europe, with the highest prevalence of 27.7% in Germany. The factor most associated with the emergence of this resistance is the administration of antibiotics and daptomycin is the treatment of choice |
