Izvleček:Self-medication is the use of industrial or homemade drugs without a prescription, in order to treat symptoms or injury to the self-recognized health with drugs that are approved and available without prescription. It described the present research work was aimed to characterize the knowledge and practices Self-medication with the students of the School of Nursing at the National University of Loja. So a descriptive and quantitative study was conducted; by applying a survey to 218 students, followed by the presentation took place this data in simple tables was performed and continued with the analysis and interpretation of data. The main data obtained were as follows: in terms of the student body of the School of Nursing there is a predominance of females over males, ranging in age from 18-51 years. On knowledge about what is self-medication almost all of the research population have indicated that knowledge about the practice of self-medication for more than half of the population of college students surveyed said they practiced self-medication. The type of medicine most commonly used in self-medication was vitamin C and ibuprofen. The reasons for self-medication more than half of the population is Indian study for the time shift demand a doctor for treatment and have mild symptoms practiced.
